Calling Oh Lord Jesus, Jeff McDonald |
|
I am a 33-year old electrical engineer (BSEE, University of Florida, 1997) working in Arkansas. I have been married 13 years and we have two wonderful children. I was born into a Christian family with a mother and father who genuinely sought after God's purpose for them. In the summer of 1971, when I was five, I asked my mother what it meant to believe in the Lord as we came across the phrase while reading our daily verse at breakfast. She responded with a few words of the gospel. I prayed, and the Lord came into me in a deep, meaningful way. I spent the rest of the summer selling grapefruit from a tree in our yard to drivers-by, preaching the gospel to everyone who stopped. At the time of my salvation, my father was attending Florida Bible College. Two years after my salvation, my parents started meeting with the church in Miami, Florida. Through meeting with the local church my father discovered calling on the Lord (one of the many Bible truths recovered through the ministries of Watchman Nee and Witness Lee). When my father would call Oh Lord Jesus out loud (see Acts 2:21, footnote 1 in the Recovery Version), I would be somewhat embarrassed. But one day shortly thereafter, following the example of my father, I experienced the richness of Christ by calling on His name (Rom. 10:12). To this day, I continue to call on His name with the other believers in the local church (II Tim 2:22). It is so wonderful that Christ has saved me, not only from eternal perdition, but also from everything that separates me from having intimate fellowship with my wonderful Christ. Furthermore, He has shown me such a practical way to contact Him. I can just call His name, Lord Jesus. |
